I'm one of the lucky ones. Every day, it seems, I read an article, get an email, have a conversation, or occasionally even have an idea of my own about liberal education. A lot of this thinking is inchoate, or to put it more bluntly, half-baked. Some of it may be just plain wrong. But since liberal education badly needs fresh thinking, why not, I thought, join the bloggers? Put some of this material up on the web in the hope that it will be provocative, maybe even helpful.

That's when in the office we started talking about "Bob's liberal arts web log," or the "liblog" for short. It's not official Teagle Foundation policy nor a clue to what we will fund or not fund. It's a very personal set of comments, quotations and reactions to what I see and hear and read.

I hope you enjoy the liblog—no, I hope you find it stimulates some fresh thinking of your own, even when you disagree or feel annoyed. I encourage you to post your comments and reactions on our new open response site. The posting link can be found at the end of each liblog entry. I won’t normally be able to respond to each comment, but I will read what you have to say and I’ll think about it.
