Grant Summary

$90,000 over 24 months to support a partnership between Harlem RBI & SUNY Old Westbury. For rising seniors, the program consists of three college preparation components: Pre-Residency, in which youth participate in intensive full-day writing workshops led by SUNY Old Westbury faculty and gain exposure to college-level writing and develop concepts for their college application essays; Residency, in which students spend six days on SUNY Old Westbury’s campus participating in academic and enrichment activities, including an intensive seminar, a writing workshop and various resource exploration activities; and Post-Residency, during which students return to the Old Westbury campus for a day to attend classes with SUNY Old Westbury students. For rising ninth graders, the program consists of an overnight trip to SUNY Old Westbury, during which participants gain familiarity with college and liberal arts education through a campus tour, a writing seminar and assignment, campus athletic activities and teambuilding exercises.
