Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America

Grant Summary

$50,000 over 24 months to fund Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America (LEDA) for the project "The New York City Leadership Corps", which represents a sub-program of LEDA's national work to develop the academic and leadership potential of exceptional public high school students from low-income backgrounds in order to offset the ongoing underrepresentation of these students in the national leadership pipeline. This targeted initiative focuses on supporting 100 young New York leaders by helping them achieve college success so that they will in turn have an impact in their local communities. The initiative focuses on recruiting LEDA Scholars from the NYC metro area and providing support to LEDA Scholars who attended high school or are attending college in the NYC metro area. LEDA staff delivers in-depth college counseling on the application process, individualized letters of recommendation, advocacy with admissions offices, and support with essay writing, financial aid, and scholarship applications. LEDA provides ongoing guidance and support LEDA Scholars who are employed or pursuing graduate degrees in the NYC metro area after college.
