Grant Summary

$100,000 over 18 months to ensure that Longwood University, in partnership with the R.R. Moton Museum, can offer high-level professional development to their faculty teaching in the newly launched Civitae Core curriculum. In the fall of 2018, Longwood launched the Civitae Core Curriculum, which aims to be a model for how institutions of higher education can make comprehensive education for democratic citizenship a top priority. Beginning with the freshman class, the Curriculum offered a set of courses on central texts in the history of American democracy while building essential democratic skills, such as clear speaking and writing, civil discourse, information literacy, ethical reasoning and collaboration. Teagle support will ensure that faculty are fully prepared to design and teach these courses.
