Warrior-Scholar Project

Grant Summary

$100,000 over 12 months to support two one-week humanities focused boot camps at Syracuse University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Warrior-Scholar Project program model ensures that students are mentored, academically challenged, and equipped with the critical thinking, reading, writing, analytical, and collaborative skills to navigate the cultural shift from active duty military service to academia. The humanities curriculum in the boot camps emphasizes the privileges and responsibilities of citizenship and fostering civic leadership skills. Assigned readings include works by the ancient Greek historian Herodotus, American founding father James Madison, the great sociologist Alexis de Tocqueville, and major Civil War figures including Abraham Lincoln, Sojourner Truth, and Frederick Douglass.
