Grant Summary

$300,000 over 36 months to support the Borough of Manhattan Community College, Hostos Community College, and Stella and Charles Guttman Community College on Project PRIME. PRIME brings together faculty from three CUNY community colleges to implement a placement policy and curricular streamlining strategy for developmental mathematics that is grounded in empirical evidence and attends to students’ aspirations. Building on their previous Teagle planning grant, faculty from mathematics and the social and natural sciences will revise and align their remedial and introductory quantitative courses. To facilitate course sequence streamlining, all three colleges will use the metric of contact hours (the hours that an entire class is scheduled to meet with an instructor), with the goal of reducing contact hours while increasing pass rates and levels of proficiency.
